Problem Solvers encourage pupils to think critically and get creative in the classroom. Pupils work as a team to solve challenges and think of what could be investigated next.

The following resources can be used to encourage pupils to ask their own scientific questions which can lead to an investigation:

Bird feeders 5-7 year-olds

In this Climate Challenge activity pupils are given the materials to make a bird feeder. How could they use their bird feeder in an investigation?

Pack it in 5-9 year-olds

Pupils are presented with the scenario that a family has gone plastic free and asked to design a wrapper for their snack. Can they test the properties of their wrapper and decide how suitable it is?

Light up the dark 7-11 year-olds

Pupils use recycled materials to create a skylight in the roof of a model home. They could go on to look at how they could investigate light further.

Clean up the beach 9-11 year-olds

A hands-on activity where the pupils create a model beach in a tray or on a tarpaulin. Can they separate the sand and other items in the mixture?
