Starting a new academic year with the anticipation of what Great Science Share for Schools will bring to children, teachers, STEM organisations and communities this year

In the summer sunshine, GSSfS 2022 successfully involved 317,655 in asking-investigating and sharing scientific questions. With take up moving into 28 countries across the globe, we are recognising the impact GSSfS’s values being lived out by so many. As a campaign that is learner-centred, inclusive, non-competitive and collaborative, we have seen a 66% growth since 2022.

It’s certainly time to celebrate…

Earlier this month we received news that the Great Science Share for Schools has been shortlisted for a prestigious THE Award in the category of Widening Participation Initiative of the year.

The THE Awards are widely known as the ‘Oscars of higher education’ and a nomination alone is a true achievement. Watch this space to find out the result later this term.

We look forward to GSSfS 2023, involving you and more new schools and educational organisations. Some key things to note:

  • GSSfS 2023 will culminate on Tuesday 13th June 2023. There is flexibility with the date and we always say it’s better to do a GSSfS when it suits you, rather than not do one at all!

  • Always remember to register your involvement! Register via www.greatscienceshare.org to access information, full resources etc.

  • The 2023 theme is ‘Science Around Us’, building on the focus on global sustainability, climate change and making a difference, a range of resources are readily available to support question asking and investigation.  Make connections with the science in your school, communities and more widely to inspire question asking-investigating and sharing.

  • GSSfS is for 5-14 year olds, so how about considering how more pupils can get involved, and possibly how you link with your secondary or primary partnership schools?

If you need any further convincing, just look at the amazing 2022 results and imagine what more of a difference we can all make to improving children’s experience and attainment in science this year!
