Together we spend a lot of time highlighting the learner-focussed nature of GSSfS, which is vital, but there are important people making this happen – teachers!
What better time to reflect on the contribution of teachers to GSSfS, than UNESCO World Teachers’ Day? Today, we celebrate the incredible teachers who inspire curiosity, nurture confidence, and empower young people to ask questions about the world around them.
At Great Science Share for Schools, we're proud to champion educators who create opportunities for pupils to share their science learning, ideas and discoveries. As a campaign endorsed by UNESCO, GSSfS continues to bring together schools, communities and STEM partners around a shared commitment to science for all.

GSSfS teachers are building working scientifically skills all year
“I have used the Great Science Toolkit as a valuable resource all year round with pupils, helping them develop confidence in sharing their scientific thinking and communicating their ideas. The scaffolds and prompts have supported pupils to become more independent in planning enquiries and seeing themselves as scientists. I have shared these approaches with colleagues through school CPD and Trust Science Networks.”

They care about their pupils’ learning and report positive pupil impact
“A confirmation of the power of Great Science Share - the opportunity to share learning with others really boosts the children’s confidence and oracy… Lots of formative assessment opportunities to understand where their strengths and weaknesses lay - providing insights that I have used this term... Was brilliant how the children really thought about how they might communicate their learning with younger learners.”

Great Guided Enquiries are developed by teachers
“Our Great Guided Enquiries are developed by a team of experienced former teachers with expertise in science education. We draw on our classroom experience to ensure every enquiry is practical and engaging, while carefully considering scientific accuracy, progression and opportunities for pupils to work scientifically.”

Teachers tell us how to improve
We listened to teachers. Feedback from Share Your Voice 2025 highlighted the need for presentation support alongside our enquiries. This led us to redesign our slide decks to provide teachers with clearer, more comprehensive, ready-to-use classroom support.
“The only constructive comment I have is I would have liked to have seen a presentation to go with the resources provided.”

Patronage to the UK National Commission for UNESCO is of huge value to Great Science Share for Schools. We work hard to achieve this endorsement and are proud to receive it for the fourth year running in 2027.
“This ultimately means more 5-14 year olds getting more quality opportunities to work scientifically - a crucial skill for all young people, wherever they are!"
Professor Lynne Bianchi (Founder and Director of GSSfS)
