Have You Ever? activities provide simple questions that all pupils will be able to answer. They make the pupil the expert, as all are likely to have had an experience or know someone who has had an experience of the question asked. These activities follow the Primary Science Capital Teaching Approach.

The following resources can be used to encourage pupils to ask their own scientific questions which can lead to an investigation:

Needed something to dry quickly 7-11 year-olds

Make your pupils the experts as they talk about the experience of seeing clothes dry. They can go on to ask investigation questions, drawing on their personal experiences, then plan and investigate evaporation.

Pupils can safely investigate mould (a member of the fungi kingdom) growing on bread by keeping it in sealed plastic bags (visit CLEAPSS for further guidance). What questions do they have? For example, which bread goes mouldy first, or which conditions speed up mould growth?

Build on your Great Gather and Group by asking pupils Have you ever found mould growing on bread at home?
